This Sunday's match is an FA Cup Round of 64 battle with Phatthana Nikhom City. The FA CUP is an annual competition in which all Toyota Thai League T1 clubs go up against teams drawn from T2, T3, university and college squads, and the T5 Amataeur League. The FA cup offers a path to a championship for many clubs and a boost to their development. The eventual FA Cup winner is placed into the AFC Champions League.

SCG Muangthong United

Coach Mario Gjurovski has signalled the intention to bring trophies back to the SCG Stadium. Said Gjurovski, “This club is meant to be on top, it’s what fans demand, and it’s what I want to bring back.”

For tonight’s match it is expected we will see many of the younger players who moved into the first team this season from the club’s academy. SCG Muangthong United has committed itself to developing talent. Young academy guns such as Sundy Wongduree (#13), Porament Arjvirai (#20), Korrawich Tasa (#8), and

right back Wattanakorn Sawatlakhorn (#30), amongst others, should be out to impress Coach Mario with some “beautiful football” and perhaps earn a spot in the first team rotation.

Phatthana Nikhom City

Today’s opponents are Phatthana Nikhom City, based in Lopburi province, a couple of hours north of the SCG Stadium. In 2019 the club competed in the “T5” division, which is the “amateur league” set up to develop talent across the country. In 2020 the T5 league was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and for the sunflower team the FA Cup is a chance to test their mettle against some of the best in the country.
