SCG Muangthong United today announce the signing of two defenders to the club to bolster the lineup for the duration of the 2019 season and beyond.
Said Head Coach Alexandra Gamma, "Our lineup is now complete and we have a team now that gives us many options in the rotation. We can alter the lineup to give players rest, or depending on the team we face."
Marco Ballini - the 21 year old Italian-Thai centre back comes to Muangthong United from Chainat. The youngster is familiar to Kirin coach Alexandra Gamma from playing on Thailand's U23 squad, where's he's made six appearances.
Born in Bologna, Italy, the 1.98 meter defender developed at A.C. Cesena until making the move to join Chainat FC in 2018.
Said Coach Gama, "Marco I know well from the national team. He ha a big future ahead of him and we will help him develop. Having a player with his height is a huge advantage when we need to dominate the aerial game."
Ernesto Phumipha is a 29 year old Thai-Spanish player with plenty of Thai League experience, joining the Kirin from rivals Port FC.
Ernesto was born in Oviedo, Spain where he developed under the Oviedo academy system, playing for them up until 2013. At that point he made the move to join Buriram United, and has since played with Army United, Bangkok United, Air Force Central, and Port FC.
He's used primarily as a left back, and is an option for Coach Gama in that role. "Ernesto brings plenty of experience and someone we can use in the rotation. Having a natural left foot is a big advantage in Thai football as well."
Ernesto and Marco have been training with the Kirin all week but it's unclear if Alexandra Gamma will elect to use them in the Kirin's net match, Sunday July 7th, 2019, against Bangkok United, a 7PM kickoff at the SCG Stadium.
