THE FIRST 3 POINTS!!

SCG Muangthong United have their first victory of the 2019 season, winning 2-0 over Chiang Mai FC in front of 8,000 fans at the SCG Stadium.

The victory was sweet relief to Kirin fans after a poor start to the season, and supporters will be encouraged by their team's performance.

Especially note worthy is the win came despite the absence of Oh Ban Suk and Adisak Kriason (injuries), and with Dang Van Lam playing most of the game with a knock.

A surprise start in the forward line was youngster Korrawit Tasa who played the full 90 minutes instead of the injured Adisak Kraison, who was rested.

Overall the back line was solid, and youngster Saringkran was up to the task. In the midfield the Kirin were often able to regain possession, with Sarach Yooyen, Lee Ho, and Wattana working hard.

At times the Kirin were misfiring on the attack, with passes going in the wrong direction and players not moving where anticipated.

Early on in the match SCG Muangthong United showed they wanted the win, however, with right back Suphanan pressing into the box looking for a scoring opportunity. A chance came for Heberty at 20 minutes when he was just a hair away from tapping in a low cross.

Likewise midfielder Sarach Yooyen attempted a shot from inside the box, but he had little room to get a good stab at the ball.

Chiang Mai FC's chances were few and far between, Dang Van Lam did make a key save on a cross, and then had to leap back to his feet to deny the rebound opportunity, and in the process strained his right hip.

With no goals in the first half, the Kirin were anxious to get on the scoreboard. Just 18 seconds into the second half Teerasil was in the six yard box with the ball looking for a shooting opportunity.

The relentless pressure and endless corner kicks soon paid off. At the 60th minute Heberty took the ball to the touch line and sent in a low cross. Teerasil timed the run forward perfectly, connecting with the pass to score the first goal of the season.

The second goal came about on a penalty when Chiang Mai clumsily tried to block yet another cross into the box. Heberty stepped forward and hammered the shot in to make the score 2-0.

Coach Pairoj soon brought on Charyl Chappuis who added some fresh legs to the midfield, and with the club ahead 2-0 Myanmar goal scorer Aung Thu was not called upon.

Said Coach Pairoj after the match, "We played well and adapted our tactics. We pressured them a lot and did not give them much chance to score."

SCG Muangthong United now embark in 4 straight away games, travelling to Chiang Rai United on Saturday March 16th. The next home match is April 20th against Port FC.
