SCG Muangthong United show character with a come from behind 2-2 draw with Ratchaburi F.C.
The Kirin were down 2-0 into the second half as Ratchaburi F.C. dominated the early stages of the match. The physical prowess of the Dragons attackers saw the Kirin struggle to contain the attack.
Coach Santi Chaiyapuk once again was limited in squad selection due to the plethora of injuries. Regular goaltender Prasit was forced to sit out the match due to the injury picked up last match, as was defender Suporn Peenagatapho. Youngster Patcharapol was once again thrust into the back four with Naoaki Aoyama, Peerapat Notchaiya, and Tristan Do.
The midfield saw Sanukran rotated into the start along with Peerapong, while regulars Sarach Yooyen and Charyl Chappuis played the full 90 minutes.
Heberty played his attacking midfield role, and the striker was once again youngster Sorawit Panthong.
Ratchaburi's lead, however, was not a reflection of which team dominated possession and control of the ball. The two goals came on strong individual efforts taking advantage of defensive breakdowns.
Fans will be encouraged by the turn around following the 60th minute. Caretaker Coach Santi was able to send in centre back Adisorn Promrak, signalling that he's close to being match fit. A few moments later midefidler Wattana Playnum made his first appearance in months, and this was followed with Chenrop Samphaodi replacing Sorawit up top.
Suddenly the Kirin looked like the champions of old, and it was not long before the scoreboard reflected it.
The physical nature of Ratchaburi finally caught up with them when the referee handed out several yellow cards in succession, beginning with a foul on Heberty at the edge of the box.
The Brazilian once again showed why he's got the best shot in the league, curling the ball past the wall for the Kirin's first goal.
Just a few minutes later Heberty followed this up with the equalizer. Once again, an unbelievable strike from distance beat the keeper.
Had there been more time left it looked as if SCG Muangthong United would have had the go ahead goal. Instead, the Kirin now have 5 draws in 5 games.
Said Heberty Fernandes after the match, "I knew when I scored the goal, there would be another, thank you to the fan club for not giving up on us"
SCG Muangthong United will next travel to play Buriram United, Friday May 4th, in Matchday 14. With momentum on their side, the Kirin will be looking for a 3 point upset, especially after Buriram suffered their second loss of the season, losing 1-0 away to Sukhothai F.C.
