SUPER SUB CHENROP!! THE U23 striker hits a hattrick as the Kirin bring home 3 points
SCG Muangthong United are victorious in the first challenge of their 2018 Thai League 1 season with a 3-2 away match win over True Bangkok United, with U23 striker Chenrop Samphaodi netting all 3 goals.
With Celio Santos injured, Adisorm Promrak was added to the centre back role along with Naoaki Aoyama, with Peerapat and Tristan Do supplying the wing back roles. The midfield featured Sarach Yooyen, with the captain's arm band, and Wattana Playnum, while Charyl Chappuis on the left flank, and Siroch Chattong on the right. Up front was Jaja Coelho, backed up by Heberty Fernandes.
Bangkok United were to have two attempts at goal in the first twenty minutes of hte half. The first attempt on target was a header from Bangkok United's Everton Goncalves following a corner ball played out short and then lobbed in. The Kirin keeper, Kampon, was sharp and on hand for the save. A similar save was required later in the half with a low shot, once again following a short kick corner.
With the Kirin unable to break through the Bangkok United back line, at the 27th the Angels were on the board after a flick in from the touch line took a bounce off a defender and landed nicely for the easy goal.
SCG Muangthong United responded with better pressure and were close to scoring a few moments later, when the ball into the box was headed right for Jaja's feet, though the defender was able to get to it first. Then again with 5 minutes to go in the half Heberty's cross found Jaja, and his backward attempt wide of target.
The Kirin in fact dominated the remaining minutes of the half, though the whistle sounded before an equalizing goal materialized.
Coach Totchtawan Sripan started the second half with U23 striker Chenrop Samphaodi coming in for Siroch. Yet the Kirin were quickly two goals down after Pokklaw hit one in from distance, with the ball bouncing off the turf in front of Kampon.
Once again, the Kirin responded to the goal with better pressure and threats. When Heberty was knocked to the turf at minute 55 it set up a prime free kick, but Heberty's attempt went off the wall and out for a corner. Moments later the second half substitution quickly paid off, however, when Chenrop took Wattana's pass and finished well to put the Kirin on the scoreboard.
The second goal came with a cross from Tristan Do which Chenrop took on the volley for a fine finish! The youngster was now on fire, and at the 83rd minute scored the hattrck, finishing off Jaja Coelho's pass across the goal mouth.
With the victory, from "...two good teams trying very hard," said Bangkok United coach Mano Polking, the Kirin will now have a week to prepare for their home opening match, Saturday February 17th, 2018, hosting Port F.C. at the SCG Stadium.
