The long wait for the Thai League to resume action was a sweet reward for Kirin fans with SCG Muangthong United's 3-0 domination of Ratchaburi Mitr Phol.
Head Coach Totchtawan Sripan was able to start many of the first string players returning from international fixtures, with Theerathon, Teerasil, and Tristan Do all getting the nod. As well, regular starters Leandro Assumpcao, Naoaki Aoyama, Celio Santos, were featured. Chappuis also continued his defensive midfield role, and he was partnered with Thossawat and Prakit. Between the pipes was Prasit, with Kawin still on injury.
The Kirin were off to an early lead when Leandro Assumpcao took Tossawat's low cross and connected with a hard first time strike. The Kirin were clearly the dominant force throughout most of the first half, winning tackles and maintaining possession. Ratchabri Mitr Phol struggled to contain, and several late tackles and foul calls resulted. A red card appeared at 34 minutes when Philip Roller's heavy tackle was late and brought down Charyl Chappuis, his second yellow of the match.
Muangthong continued to turn over the ball in the middle of the pitch and create chances. Teerasil looked about to score a second when Tristan Do's perfect cross found him unmarked in the box, however the header was wide of target. The pressure soon produced a second goal, with Heberty taking the long ball from Charyl Chappuis inside the box, side stepping the defender, and finishing with his left foot.
Tristan Do added the third goal with a beautiful volley, completing Peerapat's cross.
Worrying for the Kirin will be the condition of Heberty Fernandes who slid on the wet surface and appeared to injure his left hamstring. With the injury Adisak Kraison entered the fray for the remaining ten minutes of regular time.
For the Kirin the victory is an important 3 points, keeping pace with league leaders Buriram United who squeaked out a 1-0 win over Chiang Rai United. Rival team Bangkok United were defeated 1-0 by Pattaya United, and Bangkok Glass held to 1-1 by Ubon UMT United.
SCG Muangthong United will play away to Suphanburi on September 17th, and will then host Bangkok United at the SCG Stadium on Sept. 20th. The angels will be looking to close the gap and this promises to be a feisty match.
