MAGIC NUMBER 9 - Teerasil and Team set records in 9-1 victory

SCG Muangthong United steam rolled over Super Power Samut Prakhan 9-1, and in the process set a new league record for goals scored.

Magic Number 9!!

Goals came from Terasil with two (and he has set the record of the most goals for a player in the Thai League at 109), Heberty Fernandes, (2), Leandro Assumpcao (3), Tristan Do, and Adisak Kraisorn.

Coach Totchtawan made 4 changes to the Kirin line up. First off, Kawin was rested and Prasit started in goal. Also in defense Naoaki Aoyama was on the bench while Adison started alongside Celio Santos. In the midfield Wattana and Lee Ho were given the nod in lieu of Charyl Chappuis and Thossawat. The attacking trio was the same as used against Bangkok Glass in the last match: Teerasil, Leandro Assumpcao, and Siroch Chatthong.

Despite the Kirin having several good chances in the opening minutes, including Teerasil one-on-one with the keeper, it was Samut Prakhan that went ahead at the 13th minute with a shot from distance that seemed to catch Prasit unprepared.

Fortunately the Kirin were quick to equalize. A free kick in prime location allowed Leandro Assumpcao to slot one in next to the left post. Teerasil added the second goal at 33 minutes, following a free kick sent in by Tristan Do, which rebounded back for Teerasil to head home. It was 2-1 heading into halftime.

The second half saw the explosion of goals. First off, a second half substitute saw Adisak take the place of Saroch Chatthong in the front line. Then early into the second half Heberty Fernandes put the Kirin 2 goals up with a superb strike from just outside the box, after being set up by Teerasil.

Teerasil was also behind the fourth goal, running the ball in to the box, but electing to roll the pass out to the left for an easy tap in from Adisak.

Leandro Assumpcao added his second of the match when he flicked on Tristan Do's header, which may have been a goal anyway, solidly into the net. Not two minutes later Leandro had his third goal, an easy tap in after Adisak had worked hard to beat the keeper to the ball. The Kirin were now ahead 6-1.

Adisak got the goal he nearly had earlier when Heberty fed him the pass to feet close in, and with patience Adisak threaded the ball past the keeper.

Teerasil added his second of the night, taking Leandro Assumpcao's cross to his feet, then waiting for the keeper to commit and slotting the ball the opposite way.

Finally Tristan Do gave the Kirin a new record by scoring the ninth goal, shrugging off numerous tackles to finish it with the low shot.

With the final whistle, the Kirin had given Super Power Samut Prakhan a sound thrashing. The nine goals, however, maybe pivotal for the club as the Kirin seek to overtake top spot in the Thai League.

SCG Muangthong United will play again on Wednesday when they travel to Chaing Mai F.C. for the FA Cup Round of 16 match.
