SCG Muangthong United and Pattaya United played out a goalless draw in matchday 21 of the Thai League 2017 season. With the result the Kirin drop further back from the lead, making next weeks BIG MATCH even more important!
Coach Tochtawan once again was once again to juggle the line up, with Teerasil Dangda available as a sub, Charyl Chappuis was rested in favour of Lee Ho, was on the bench, and Celio Santos was under a one match ban. Adison stepped into the centre back role beside Aoyama, with Theerathon and Triston Do on the wing backs. The midfield consisted of Tossawat and Heberty Fernandes and Lee Ho, with Adisak, Leandro Assumpcao, and Siroch the three principal forwards.
The Kirin again started slow which has been the pattern of late, and the first 20 minutes Pattaya United were in control of the ball. SCG Muangthong United's performance was characterized by frequent passes not finding their target and miscommunications.
Pattaya striker Milos Stojanovic almost headed one in on a corner, and Wellington Priori overran the defenders a couple of times, and the hosts looked at risk of going down a goal.
The hosts began to regain some control, and at 28 minutes Adisak Kraisorn was in the clear for a header goal off a Theerathon free kick, but was just a half-step behind the ball. Leandro Assumpcao, a few moments later, hammered a low show wide after a series of headers inside the box. Pattaya United were forced into fouls as they tried to contain the Kirin pressure, and Theerathon was to have several free kicks from distance into the box. At the 40th minute a rebound from one such attempt rolled to Tristan Do, and his low blast from distance was wide.
Yet the heightened pressure did not produce a goal in the first half and the teams walked to the locker rooms in a scoreless draw at half time.
Shortly into the second half Teerasil Dangda was subbed onto the pitch, his first match in over a month. Also Wattana Playnum entered the game at the same time, while Adisak and Siroch came off. The Kirin continued to dominate, yet the goal that always seemed eminent did not materialize. In fact it was Pattaya United who almost went ahead at the last moment when Anuwat's strike required a super save from Kawin.
With the result the Kirin drop further back from the top of the table as Buriram United continue to win games. SCG Muangthong United will travel to Korat to play Nakhonratchasima FC on Wednesday. Then July 9th it is a super big match as Buriram United visit the SCG Stadium.
