FA CUP BOUND!! Muangthong United win opening match of campaign 3-0

SCG Muangthong United 2-0 Muang Loei United - Chang FA Cup Round of 64

The Kirin began their 2017 FA CUP campaign with a solid 3-0 win over a determined Muang Loei United. Goals came from Leandro Assumpcao '10 and Celio Santos '42, and Mongkol '92.

Coach Totchtawan was able to rest key players, including Teerasil Dangda who is still nursing an injury, however Theerathon Bunmathan returned to the fold after having missed the previous match. Adisorn Promrak started in the centre back role for Naomi Aoyama, and Pitakpong out on the right, allowing Tristan Do to also be rested. New signings Leandro Assumpcao and Siroch Chattong provided the attacking threat up top, and Mongkol the attacking midfielder ahead of Lee Ho.

With the rain pelting down at times, The Kirin were in control of the first half, and by the 10th minute had their first goal when Leandro found the top corner from close range. Muang Loei United had chances however, with substitute keeper Prasit forced into two saves during the half. Yet the Kirin were able to control the pace of the match against the team from the fourth division, and Celio Santos scored an easy goal with plenty of time on the ball to tee up the shot.

For the second half Leandro was subbed out and Heberty Fernandes gained some valuable playing time with his second match with Muangthong United. With the move the Kirin stepped up their dominance of play. The Kirin began to show a better brand of football, with plenty of movement and passing at speed. The interactions between Theerathon and Heberty were clever and a pleasure to watch.

With Muangthong United clearly in charge it was a chance for Thossawat Limwannasathian to take to

the field in his first appearance for the club. He was joined by Peerapat who relieved Sanukran at left midfield.

With plenty of ball possession the Kirin were able to notch a third goal late in the match when Mongkol was there to knock in the rebound from Heberty's strike.

SCG Muangthong United will now prepare for Sunday's Thai League fixture when they host Bec-Tero Sasana F.C., a 6PM kick off, once again at the SCG Stadium.
