SCG Muangthong United have their ninth clean sheet win of the season with a 4-0 thumping of Navy Football Club. At the same time the Kirin open up a 5 point lead at the top of the table.
Coach Totchtawan Sripan fielded a strong side against the lower ranked Navy Football Club, knowing the battle for the top of the table was still tight, and every game important. Only Naoaki Aoyama was left off the game sheet, given the upcoming AFC Champions League match in Kashima, Japan. Adisorn Promrak was given the other centre back role along side Celio Santos. Spanish striker Xisco Jiminez was not suited, still struggling with an injury.
Within the first few minutes the game looked as if it was going to belong to the Kirin, and Mongkol almost had one when his header was just slightly over the bar.
Then at 15' Teerasil was dragged to the pitch and Theerathon stepped up for the free kick attempt from 35 yards out. It was Tristan Do who struck the ball, however, and the kick was above the wall and dropping towards the goal, but just over.
A repeat instance came about soon after, a little further out. This time Theeraton's kick was on target and forced a diving save from Intharat Apinyakool, the Navy F.C. keeper.
Navy FC were to have occasional advances at goal, and the first save required from Kawin came about at 28' when Nigerian forward Gafar Adefolarin's low shot was easily handled.
The Kirin kept up the pressure with Chanathip threading the ball forward for Teerasil, and his on-target shot forced another diving save.
The inevitable first goal came from Teerasil Dangda, who got his head onto Tristan Do's cross to nod the ball past Intharat at the 30th minute. The goal was a continuation of Teerasil's form, and he's scored 4 goals in 3 matches.
The 1-0 lead in the second half exploded with 3 additional goals in the second, with Teerasil scoring another, Mongkol Thasakrai, and defender Celio Santos.
Said Celio after the match, "I'm very happy to have scored my first goal for Muangthong."
Though Navy Football Club were to threaten, and Kawin was forced into a couple of second half saves, it was a game dominated by the Kirin.
With the win SCG Muangthong United can travel with confidence to Japan tomorrow, in preparation for Wednesday's AFC Champions League match. It will be the leading team in the J-League, Kashima Antlers, vs the leading team from the Thai League, SCG Muangthong United.
