SCG Muangthong United earned their fourth straight win, with their fourth straight clean sheet in a 3-0 away match victory at Chonburi F.C. Goals came from Theersil, Adisak, and Theeraton.
Kirin fans would have been pleased to see Teerasil return to the starting eleven. The others changes from the squad that has brought a winning start to the season was to see Celio starting in the centre back role instead of Adisorn, and Ratchapol was given the nod in the midfield in place of Wattana.
SCG Muangthong United were quick onto the scoreboard when Teerasil hit a low driving shot from distance. The nicely placed shot tucked in against the left post for the goal at only 13 minutes.
Both teams were to have further chances at goal in the half. Adisak was well onto the cross for a powerful header that was wide, but threatening. Chonburi's Brazilian forward Andre Luis pressured and almost forced an own goal until Theerethon hit the clearance back to the midfield. Similarly Xisco was nicely set up by Tristan Do, but the Spaniard's attempted flick was over the bar.
Similar to the first half, the Kirin were quick onto the scoresheet in the second. This time Adisak Kraisorn finished with a beauty of a volley off a corner kick at the 55th minute.
Chonburi were to respond, picking up the pace and pressuring the defensive line. Muangthong's keeper Kawin was into the air often to pull down crosses or corners, or to punch out clearances. New signing Celio Santos was also a key defender, denying several crosses and corner attempts, along side Naoaki Aoyama in the centre back role.
Chonburi were vulnerable on the counter attack, however, and at the 76th minute the Kirin capitalized. A quick run down the right by Chanathip with the pass out to Theerathon, who finished the easy shot cleanly.
With his team three goals up it was time for some key players to be rested, and Head Coach Totchtawan Sripan subbed off both Chanathip and Tristan Do, with Mongkol and Wongsakorn getting some pitch experience.
Chonburi continued to press well into the last seconds of the game, and it looked as if the Kirin were going to be denied their 4th consecutive clean sheet . A break down the right flank and the pass to the wide open Prince Amponsah looked a sure thing. Kawin, however, made a phenomenal save, able to get his left foot in the way of the shot, forcing the ball over the net and out of bounds.
SCG Muangthong United have just two days rest until they are once again in action, this time visiting Chonburi's derby rivals, Pattaya United, at the Dolphins Stadium in Pattaya, Wednesday March 8th.
