SCG Muangthong United: Press Conference Announcement
Today SCG Muangthong United confirm that Chanathip Songkrasim will leave on loan to Consadole Sapporo of Japan's J-League.
The loan deal is for 18 months, commencing in July, 2017. The deal was announced by SCG Muangthong United club president Mr. Pongsak Polanant and Consadole Sapporo General Manager Mr. Hirokatsu Mikami.
SCG Muangthong United stressed their immense pride in Chanathip, in the announcement at the SCG Stadium on December 19th to both the Thai and Japanese press. Chanathip helped steer Muanghtong United to be league champions in 2016, and is a key player with Thailand's national team, recently earning the MVP Award at the Suzuki Cup, which Thailand won for the fifth time.
Chanathip will become the first Thai footballer to play in the J-League, and this is widely seen as a strong move to further his own development, but also that of Thai football.
The July 2017 date also allows Chanathip to help SCG Muangthong United through the first half of the next season, as well as through the initial Asian Champions League games.
Consadole Sapporo have followed Chanathip's progress since he entered the youth league system. From the age of 17 his remarkable ball control abilities, plus his excellent footwork caught their full attention. "Messi-J" as Chanathip is known to Thai fans, at 23, is at the right age and level of skill to make this move into Japan's top level of professional football. Said Mikami, "Jay is a fiesty player, quick and agile, and he will have no problem competing in Japan."
