The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) along with representatives of the 18 Premier League clubs met today, Monday 17th October 2016 at 10:00 am, at the Royal Thai Police Sports Club, Vibhavadi Rd., Bangkok, to discuss and finalize the details regarding the 2016 season.
Pol.Gen. Somyot Poompanmoung, current president of the Football Association of Thailand stated the clubs had voted 17-1 in favour of ending the 2016 season, the league standings as they are to apply as final.
In regards to the question of promotion and relegation, the votes were 9 in favour or keeping 18 teams in the league, 6 for expanding the league to 20 teams, and the 3 remaining votes to give the FAT to use in their discretion.
The Toyota League Cup championship and prize money will be jointly shared by Buriram United and SCG Muangthong United.
In regards to the Chang FA Cup, it was unanimously concluded by all 4 teams that they share the championship and awards, but they have to draw lots to decide who will compete in 'AFC Champion league', however Chonburi FC have already declined so there are three teams left for the draw."
As for the World Cup qualification match, featuring the Thai National team and Australian National team, the Australian National were unable to accept a neutral field, and the match on Nov. 15th is still to be confirmed. This will be close to the end of 30 days mourning period, however it is not clear whether or not spectators will attend or where this match will be played.
