SCG Muangthong United left it until the last minute, literally, to secure the win over Chiang Rai United.
The match was completely dominated by Muangthong, who were repeatedly frustrated by the Chiang Rai defenders and keeper. Numerous goal opportunities were denied with blocks and goal line clearances. In the first half alone there were a half dozen for sure goal chances that had fans already on their feet, only to sit back down again as somehow the ball did not cross the line.
In the second half Coach Totchtawan Sripan brought in Teerasil Dangda, and Xisco Jimenez, in hopes of finding the elusive goal. Finally, however, it was centre back Adisorn Promrak, who took Tristan Do's cross, spun, and fired it to back of the net. The fans exploded after having watched so many good chances be denied.
With the win SCG Muangthong United hold onto the top spot with the one point advantage over Bangkok United, who continue their impressive run of victories. The championship may well come down to which club blinks first.
SCG Muangthong United will play again this Wednesday at the SCG Stadium in Toyota League Cup quarter finals with Krabi United. Then on Sunday August 14th the Kirin travel to play Suphanburi F.C.
