SCG Muangthong United’s 14 game win streak came to an end with an away match loss to Ratchaburi Mitr Pohl F.C. The match had been a chance for Muangthong United to break the league record for consecutive wins, set by Buriram United last season.
SCG Muangthong United were without their two starting centre backs Naoaki Aoyama and Mario Abrante, both out with injuries. As well, Teerasil Dangda was banned from the match due to too many yellow cards. As well, key play maker Chanathip was forced out of the match early as his injury, that had made his start doubtful, was aggravated.
Early on in the match the Kirin’s fate seemed apparent when in a moment of lost focus Kawin gifted a goal to Heberty Fernandes, playing in his last match for Ratchaburi FC. The ball was played back to Kawin, and he elected to clear the ball out the opposite way, however he flubbed the clearance allowing Heberty the easy goal.
Heberty has signed with Al Shabaab Football Club in the Saudi Professional League.
SCG Muangthong United responded with pressure and possession. Several balls towards the box looked promising as the rain began to fall at the new Ratchaburi stadium. At the 28th minute N’Dri chipped in a little cross that found Cleiton Silva unmarked. Silva made no mistake and headed in the cross for his 21st goal of the season.
The second half saw Ratchaburi net their second goal at 55 minutes. A through ball allowed Yannick Djalo to get in behind the defenders for a strike into the net. It was one of those close offside situations, and after the goal the Kirin protested heavily.
The third goal came when a poor clearance allowed for a shot, taken from quite a distance by Pathomchai Sueasakul. The shot was low and dropping, and Kawin tried to punch clear, but it was to go off the post and in.
The last 15 minutes of the match, however, were largely SCG Muangthong United’s as the Kirin continued to press and look for goals. Several crosses into the box, and pass combinations threatened, though no good attempt was to materialize, except Cleiton almost had his second when his header was narrowly wide.
An unfortunate fracas erupted in the last minutes of the match, the result for Muangthong United was a red card to Tristan Do, which means he will miss the next match, a key fixture against Bangkok United. Ratchaburi’s Takuya Murayama also was handed a red.
SCG Muangthong United play next on Wednesday July 6th when they travel to Ubon Ratchathani for a Toyota League Cup match. Then on Sunday July 10th they will be at the Thammasat Rangsit University stadium for the Bangkok United match.
