SCG Muangthong United earned their 11th straight win, and 12th clean sheet of the season, with a 1-0 away victory at Army United, Sunday June 19th. With the 2016 season soon to enter the second half, the DREAM TEAM 2016 has so far lived up to it’s name.
SCG Muangthong United dominated ball possession and were in full control of the match. The Army United keeper from Singapore, Hassan Sunny, was remarkable, and prevented the score from being any more than just the one goal.
The lone goal came late in the match when substitute defender Chaiyawat Buran banged in a shot from close range. The goal capped off the relentless pressure SCG Muangthong United had put on the Army defenders. It was the culmination of a series of attempts at goal that had reached a crescendo since the second half begun.
The Muangthong United back line were solid, despite the absence of key centre back Naoaki Aoyama. Instead Suphan Thongsong was given the start along side Mario Abrante. Tristan Do and Peerapat played in the outer back positions. It was Peerapat who was subbed off at the 76th minute to make way for Chaiyawat. Seven minutes later her scored the winner.
With the win SCG Muangthong United hold on to top spot, just two points ahead of Bangkok United, who’s head coach Mano Polking was spotted in the stands at the match with Army United. Also present was Nakhon Ratchasima’s new head coach Miloš Joksić. SCG Muangthong United will be playing the Swatcats on Saturday, however they first have a mid-week match on Wednesday when they host Osotspa M-150 F.C.
