SCG Muangthong United’s top scorer, meanwhile, is Brazilian Cleiton Silva, with 8 goals in 8 matches, and closing in on breaking the league record for goals scored (101).

Both clubs also made changes to the Head Coach for 2016, and both clubs elected to appoint prominent legends of Thai football.

The similarities are notable.

MTUTD Head Coach Totchtawan Sripan a midfielder, made 109 appearances for the Thai National team between 1992-2008, scoring 19 goals. During much of the same time, his team mate would have been Chonburi’s new Head Coach, Therdsak Chaiman, also a midfielder, who made 75 appearances between 1994 - 2010, scoring 22 goals.
