SCG Muangthong United begin the DREAM TEAM 2016 Season with a 1-0 victory away to Nakhon Ratchasima F.C., at a packed 80th Birthday Stadium in Korat - capacity crowd of 32,159 fans.
Muangthong United were without the services of striker Teerasil Dangda, as well as defenders Aoyama and recent signing Fabricio. Artit Daosawang was moved in to the centre back role along with Thitiphan, and Tristan Do got the nod at the right back position.
The lone goal of the match came at the 37th from the boot of Cleiton Silva who took a his rebound cross and lobbed one over the keeper. Muangthong dominated possession for most of the match, however did not produce many clear attempts at goal. The Muangthong attack lacked the crisp passing typical of the style from Coach Totchtawan. Recent signing Adisak Kraisorn played the full 90 minutes, but often the passes between the forwards and midfielders were miscued.
Nakhon Ratchasima were solid in the midfield, often forcing turnovers. The club has improved over last season, when they finished 9th overall, and looked strong. The Swatcats came close in the first half when a shot from distance required Kawin to be alert and tip the ball over the bar. The equaliser looked a sure thing in the second half on header off a corner, but Kawin dove left and was able to bring the ball down with an amazing effort.
SCG Muangthong United are in action again soon, with the home opener of the season on Wednesday March 9th, 8PM, against Bangkok Glass F.C.
