SCG Muanghtong United took their first match of the LEO PRE-SEASON CUP competition with a clean sheet defeat of Sisaket F.C., 2-0.
Head Coach Totchtawan Sripan knew he had to rest key players given the upcoming AFC Championship preliminary match next week against Shanghai’s SIPG F.C. It was a chance for many of the second string players to earn their place on the squad, though Negrao and centre back Dornellas got the start and some valuable pitch time for these new players.
The first half even possession between the two clubs, though SCG Muangthong United were to have the better chances at net. Sisaket FC forwards looked threatening, particular on the right wing and Muangthong full back Suriya Singmuy was under pressure several times to hold off the rush.
The only goal of the match came at the 45th minute on a penalty when Junior Negrao was fouled by the Sisaket keeper. Negrao easily converted the spot kick for his second goal for SCG Muangthong United.
The second half started well for Muangthong with a quick goal from Wuttichai who had been subbed in at the start. Sisaket continued to threaten, however, and Muangthong’s #2 keeper Witsanusak made several strong stops. This included a penalty shot save at the 70th minute, bringing to 4 the number of penalty shots saved by Maungthong keepers so for this pre-season.
SCG Muangthong United depart for Shanghai and their next match, Tuesday February 9th. The LEO PRE-SEASON CUP action will continue Friday February 12th when Bectero Sasana visits the SCG Stadium, 6PM kickoff.
