SCG Muangthong United returned to winning form with 4-2 victory over rivals Chonburi. The win will feel like justice for Muangthong after having lost the first leg fixture in a shocker in Chonburi.
Mario Gjurovski scored his second hattrick in three games, including the opening goal at 38 minutes on a pass sent across the six yard box for an easy tap in. His second goal was a spectacular volley when the Chonburi defense failed to clear, and the third goal another set up from Teerasil at the top of the box.
Muangthong’s fourth goal came from Cleiton Silva who broke out of a scoreless streak.
MTUTD could easily have scored several more goals but what looked like easy chances were wasted. The most dramatic was Teerasil Dangda finding himself one-on-one with the keeper and hammered the ball high over the bar.
Chonburi were able to steal two goals back in the second half, while being a man down. Both goals came from low crosses in to the box that were first time strikes into the net. Additionally, Kawin made other key stops to help MTUTD hold onto the win.
At first the MTUTD defense looked strong, and Coah Talajic had experimented and employed Kim Dong Jin at left back, alternating to the centre back position with Suphorn.
With the win MTUTD stay in 2nd place, two points behind Buriram who continued their rampage with another 5-0 haul, this time over Ratchaburi at the Thunder Castle in Buriram.
MTUTD will travel to Army Stadium on Saturday October 31st to face Army United. Ticket details can be found at http://mtutd.info
