SCG Muangthong United move ahead to the semifinal round of the Chang FA Cup with a messy 1-0 victory over Chiang Rai United, Wed. Sept 23.
The main factor in the match was the heavy rain that began just before kick off and continued throughout most of the game, with moments of lighter showers. At one point the game had to be halted and the ground's crew did what they could to clear some of the bigger puddles.
As a result players stuggled to anticipate the ball as passes would fall short, or the ball would skip quickly along the wet surface. At the same time the risks of injury were high as players wold lose their footing or collide with each other accidentally.
The only goal of the match came on a penalty shot by Cleiton Silva at the 77th minute, after Teerasil Dangda was tripped in the box.
"Lucky for us, in a match like this maybe it could be us and Chaing Rai goes up..." said Coach Talajic referring to the penalty call.
"This was not the night to play some good football..." said Talajic referring to the heavy rain and condition of the pitch.
SCG Muangthong United's next match is Saturday Sept. 26th as they travel to play Osotspa M-150 at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok. Tickets available before the match at te stadium for 150 baht. Thai Premier League matchday 24.
