SCG Muangthong United battled a resolute Osotspa M-150 to a 5-1 win at the Rajamangala Stadium, and with the result tighten their hold over first place in the Thai Premier League.
Despite the score, Osotspa M-150 fought hard and came close on a few chances that could easily have made the game much closer.
"Osotspa played some good football and created good chances," said Muangthong Coach Talajic, "...and at times we lost our focus a bit."
Muangthong opened the scoring early on when Mario Gjurovski slid a pass across the goal to Thitiphan who had an easy tap in from close in. The second goal was to come 20 minutes later, and this time Cleiton Silva hit his first of two goals with an assist from Mario Gjurovski.
Mario added the third goal on a penalty shot after he was tackled in the box.
SCG Muangthong added two more goals in the second half from Chananan (who entered as a sub) and Cleiton Silva with his second. Osotspa M-150 were to get one back when Leonardo, who had been up against Aoyama all night, finally connected.
Osotspa M-150 were to go down to 10 men with a sloppy foul at the 74th minute, yet Muangthong were not able to find the net again, despite several excellent opportunities, either denied by Osostspa’s keeper, or the ball being hit wide of the target.
SCG Muangthong United have a break in Thai Premier League action due to FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 Qualifications, when the Thai National Team will be playing in Vietnam, October 13th. Muangthong United's next match is October 18th at the SCG Stadium when Chiang Rai United return for the next Thai Premier League fixture.
