SCG Muangthong United 7 vs. Raj Navy F.C. 0
Muangthong United hold onto first place in the TPL after a powerful display of goal scoring.
The first half was dominated by SCG Maungthong who kept possession and pressured Navy FC into their own end for most of the half. Despite not having team captain Datskorn Thonglo (one match ban) Muangthong were able to control the midfield and work the ball towards the goal.
The half was interrupted twice due to power failures, however the two brief stoppages did not derail the momentum. The first goal came at 35 minutes from Mario Gjurovski who scored from close in. He was assisted by left back Suriya Singmuy who had rushed with the ball to the touch line and then fed the pass across the goal.
Less than 2 minutes later Muangthong scored again when Teerasil netted from the left side.
Navy FC were to have two key chances at net in the half, however both shots were wide of the net and did not force Kawin into a save.
The second half saw SCG Muangthong United really come to life with 5 unanswered goals to completely bury Navy FC. Goals came from Teerasil with 2 (one a penalty), Cleiton Silva, and Chananan, who came on as a sub, with 2. The substitutions were key in 3 of the goals, as Siwakorn also assisted on the 6th goal. The last 3 goals were all scored in the last 10 minutes of the match (including injury time) as Navy FC were unable to contain the onslaught.
The win is very significant for Muangthong as Buriram United also won 7-0 over Chainat! This means Muangthong will hold onto first place with the same one goal advantage they had heading in to tonight’s match.
Despite the result, head coach Dragan Talajic said, “RAJ Navy is a good team. This same game on another day maybe would not be the same result. I wish them luck in the fight to avoid relegation.”
SCG Muangthong United will play again on Wednesday Sept. 23rd when they host Chiang Rai United at the SCG Stadium in the quarter finals of the Chang FA Cup. Ticket details, as well as match photos and video available at http://mtutd.info
