SCG Muangthong 2, Army United 0
July 5th, 2015, SCG Stadium
SCG Muangthong United played 95 minutes of quality football in their 2-0 defeat over Army United at the SCG Stadium.
MTUTD were without key defender Piyaphon and their top goal scorer Cleiton Silva, however the pace and quality of the play was not lacking.
The game was dominated by MTUTD who kept possession of the ball well, and often strung together 6 - 7 passes as they methodically moved the ball forward. Army United resorted at a 5 man back line at times, but the momentum was all Muangthong's, having the first shot on net at 3 minutes in.
The first goal came at the 38th minute when Chananan capitalized on a defensive error, stealing the ball and surging to the net, his shot beating the keeper, off a defenders boot on the way in.
The second goal was to come in the second half when Wuttichai, as a sub for Chananan, took the pass from Teerasil and converted from close in. Teerasil almost scored a number of times, and his passes and positonal play made it clear why he spent a season in La Liga. Teerasil was voted man-of-the-match.
Army had a few chances at net, including one off the crossbar after Kawin mishandled a ball allowing the shot, though they were only able to manage 4 shots the whole match, as compared to 19 for MTUTD.
Coach Dragan Talajic recognized the quality of his team, "We played good football, created a lot of chances, our finishing could have been better, but I'm glad with the football the boys played...the Thai league is improving so much, you have to fight form the first to the last minute to win..."
Coach Dragan further added that it was a challenge to field a strong team each week with the limited number of players on the roster, especially as Siwakorn will be leaving the club to join Port F.C.
SCG Muangthong United next's match is one week away, Sunday July 12th, when the team travels to Chainat province to play the Hornbills. Ticket details will be announced shortly via MTUTD's official English site (http://mtutd.info) and Google+ page (https://plus.google.com/+MtutdInfoFC/)
