SCG Muangthong United defeated Ratchburi 2-0 in the first match of the Kirin Cup at the SCG Stadium.
The Kirin Cup is an invitational friendly tournament featuring 4 teams from the Thai Premier League. MTUTD were without Sarah Yuyen and Teerasil Dangda, both on International duties. Starting keeper Kawin was also missing from the line-up due to a wrist injury. Despite this regular starters such as Mario Gjurovski, Datsakorn Thonglo, Naokai Aoyama and others, made the roster. It was also a chance for some of MTUTD's second string players to show Coach Dragan Talajic what they can do.
Muangthong controlled most of the game, having 70% of possession and keeping the ball in the Ratchaburi half. The first goal came at the 31st minute when a cross from Kim Dong Jin from the left side was too far for the keeper to reach, and defender Suporn-Peenagatapho was there to hit it in with a good finish.
Clinton Silva added a second goal for MTUTD at the 80th minute, assisted by Datsakorn Thonglo.
Tomorrow Chonburi will play Raja Navy FC, and then Sunday the winner of that match will face Muangthong United in the final, with a 6 PM kick-off. Match tickets are 100 baht for both games, available on the day at the SCG Stadium ticket office (east side).
