SCG Muangthong United's Teerasil Dangda provided the assist as Thailand defeated Vietnam 1-0 in FIFA World Cup 2018 qualification action at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok yesterday in front of 40,500 fans. The match was refereed by Ben Williams of Australia.

Substitute Anon Pokkhao scored the only goal in the 80th minute after Vietnam's Minh Chau Nguyen earned a second yellow card in the second half to give the hosts a man advantage. Thailand were ranked 144th in the world by FIFA, while Vietnam were ranked 133. The two teams are in Group F which also includes Iraq, Indonesia and Taiwan, all competing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The teams will play home and away matches against each other. There are 40 teams competing across 8 groups, and the 8 group winners and the 4 best group runner-ups will advance to round 3. The competition also doubles as the 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualification.
