The opening home match

Despite the goal, Muangthong were pressured frequently to hold the ball, and Buriram had the better share of ball possession. Muangthong's keeper Kawin was forced into several key saves, and the back line were forced to clear several times. At the 40th minute Buriram came close with a strike from the edge of the box that hit the post, and then Kawin smothered the rebound. SCG Muanghtong had their chances as well, with a strike from Cleiton Silva just before the half that was high over the bar.

The second half saw Kim Dong Jin rested as the injury he had picked up in training earlier in the week was aggravated. Shortly after Coach Taljic was forced to sub off Mario Gjurovski, also injured. SCG Muangthong United had better pressure in the opening minutes of the second half, keeping the ball and creating some concern for Buriram's back four. The Buriram goal followed when Muangthong elected to do a short free kick from deep in their end. When the ball was not cleared, a cross found the head of Diogo who was able to put it away.Muanghtong were to have further chances. A free kick attempt from Silva was just wide. Teerasil had a chance at the 60th miniute, but he was unable to get a solid shot and it was handled easily by the keeper. The last 10 minutes of the half was dominated by Buriram, however the Muangthong back line held firm and made sure the game finished 1-1.

"I'm disappointed, we made one mistake and they scored. And we were down two big players," was head coach Talajucs post-match thoughts. The state of the injury to Kim Dong Jin is unknown and worrisome, and Marip Gjurovski looks optimistic for the next match, Saturdfay Feb. 28th against Bangkok Glass at the Glass Stadium.
