MATCH REPORT NAKHON RATCHASIMA VS. SCG MUANGTHONG UNITED FEB. 15, 2015 - KORAT Attendance: 27,900 SCG Muangthong started with a strong looking team, though key defender D.J. Kim was injured and sat out the match. Instead Artit was drafted in the center defense along with Aoyama. In the front Chananan is still injured (expected back April) and Cleiton Silva, Teerasil, and Mario Gjurovski made up the attacking threat.
The first half saw SCG Muanghtong United with the better share of the ball, and the team tended to work the ball up through the middle with give and go plays, and then lay the ball out to the side for a cross. Several good chances were presented through crosses, and Teerasil as well as Thitipan had near misses. It was United to have the first shot at net, and all total in the half the Swatcat keeper was forced into 5 saves, while Teerasil had one shot he had to worry about. The second half started out strong for United with pressure on the Swatcat goal almost immediately. The pressure was ultimately too much as at the 50th minute Sarach Yuyen scored for Muangthong. The goal came as a shot was placed into the box from Cleiton Silva, which bounced off a defender and came to Sarach, who was able to score from a favourable position. The remainder of the second half saw the two clubs share possession of the ball, with additional chances at goal form both ends. Muanghtong came close again at the 73rd minute when a free kick was punched free by the Swatcat's keeper. At the other end, Kawin needed to smother the ball near the goal line as Swatcat corner led to a close range shot. Both teams received yellow cards, though the Swatcats had 3 to Muangthong's 1 (Teerasil). At the post-match press conference Muangthong's head coach had kind words for the Swatcats, .. welcome to the Thai Premier League.. this is a much stronger team than last year, and any club having to play Korat will find it very difficult" When asked about the upcoming match with Buriram, Taljic said, "We will see who's the best prepared, this game does not come too early in the season.
