Along with Tawin, four other Muangthong United players were also selected for the national team: Sarach Yuyen, Atit Daosawang, Sarawut, and Chainarong.
The War Elephants almost didn't make it. They entered the match with a 2-0 goal advantage following a decisive win at home. However, the 90,000 fans at the Kuala Lumpur stadium spurred on the Malaysian side. Within 5 minutes a penalty had been awarded and the Malaysian team went ahead. Then a goal was added at the end of half time, and again early in the second half. The Thai team were down 3-0.
Yet coach Kiatisuk "Zico" Senamuang is today proud of his team for they continued to push and scored two goals before the match ended. Thus, Thailand won 4-3 on aggregate.
The win ends a 4 year drought as the top team in Southeast Asia, however, it is also the fourth time Thailand have been champions. Also, for Zico, this is a tournament has won 3 times as a player, and now a fourth as coach.
