UNITED DEFEAT GLASS 3-1 TO CAPTURE CHARITY SHIELD TROPHY!!

SCG Muangthong United were unbeatable at home in the Charity Shield classic with a 3-1 victory over BangKok Glass, capturing the shield in the HRH Princess Sirindhorn Charity event in support of Thailand's paralympic athletes.

United opened the scoring at 37 minutes when right back Piyaphon cut the ball back from the touch line, across the mouth of the net to Wuttichai who had an easy tap into the net. Glass were to equalize with a long range shot that bounced in front of the Muangthong keeper. The score remained 1-1 for most of the match, though United controlled the play and had the better share of chances to score. At the 85th minute a corner kick was narrowly missed by Kim Dong Jin, however United's other central defender Artiz Borda was following through and scored his second goal for the club. With the side 2-1 up, Glass looked defeated and the third goal came a few minutes later when Sarawut threaded a clever pass down the middle to Kasidesh, who then finished nicely despite the Glass keeper bearing down on him. United opted to rest Mario Gjurovski, however the team was bolstered by former English Premier League midfielder Jermaine Pennant, who played in the match on the invite of Jay Bothroyd. Pennant was a key player for the club during the match, and showed much of the form that convinced clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Stoke, and Wolverhampton to sign him. Muangthong's next mach will be October 8th vs the Air Force F.C., at the air force stadium in Rangsit.
