Match Report - Muangthong United - 0, vs. Chonuri F.C. - 2
Sat. August 23rd, 2014
Attendance = 8549
Muangthong entered the match needing 3 points in order to keep alive their chances of claiming the title, being 7 points back of the league leaders, and 4 points back of Chonburi, with 7 games to go in the season. United also entered the match without key players Mario Gjurovski, Jay Bothroyd, and Erik Paartalu. Dragan Talajic fielded the same team that started the match against Buriram just a few fays ago.
The first half was lively, with both teams having chances, however Muangthong United looked the better side, holding onto possession and moving the ball forward. Milan Bubalo came close on two occasions, including a shot from very close that flew over the bar. The first half also saw Muangthong United draw 4 yellow cards, all in a span of about 15 minutes. Also worrying was defender Tossapol who limped off with a possible hamstring injury, to be replaced by Artit.
Chonburi's goal at the 65th minute was the result of a free-kick that made it over the wall and into the top right corner. The remainder of the second half was mainly dominated by Muangthong, and they moved the ball quickly across and up the pitch, or disposssed Chonburi's attackers quickly. Yet Chonburi would have occasional runs at goal, and in the 91st minute the game was sealed up with a late 2nd goal.
The Thai Premier League now has a one month break due the Asian games. The rest is a great chance for Muangthong players that are injured to recover, and the team to re-gain the winning form that saw them led the league for almost half the season.
