THE BOYS SHOWED CHARACTER!!
MATCH REPORT - MUANGTHONG UNITED @ RATCHABURI JULY 19, 2014
United held of a pressing Ratchaburi squad and kept the tie, coming away with a hard earned point. Meaanwhile Buriram also tied in their fixture with PTT Rayong, meaning Muangthong is still top of the table.
United started the game without their regular keeper Kawin, who had subbed out in the match against Songhkla F.C. last week. As well, holding midfielder Erik Paartalu and defender Kim Dong Jin are still out with injuries. Team captain Datsakon, however, is back in the line-up, along with back-up keeper WITSANUSAK KAEWRUANG.
United started the match strong and held the ball for the first 20 minutes. Several crosses and passes through the middle put pressure on the Ratchaburi defense. The two teams shared possession for the rest of the half, but Muangthong scored first with Wuttichai took a through pass and managed to confuse the keeper and central defenders with some nice footwork.
Ratchaburi continued to press and were finding success on both the right flank and the left. A couple of crosses in sailed through the box untouched, but at the 35th minute a low cross in from the left side was hit into the bottom corner past the diving Witsanusak.
The second half saw Ratchaburi continue to press and within 10 minutes score a second goal. It was a long ball cleared from their end, and a defensive mix-up as Borda passed the ball back, but to the foot of a waiting attacker. United, however, equalized just a few minutes later as the center back, Tossapol, followed the play in and found a loose ball for Muangthong's second goal.
Both teams continued to have good chances at net. At the 72nd minute Coach Dragan Talajuc subbed in Milan Bubalo for Jay Bothroyd, a move that worked out well in last week's match with Songhkla.
United's keeper was kept busy, with a diving clearance of a header at the 78th minute, and a few minutes later smothering a difficult shot in from the right hand side. Witsanusak also went down heavily after a collision in the box, but was able to continue. Ratchaburi applied plenty of pressure in the last 10 minutes of the match but were unable to find a goal. An injury time sub for TOSSAPOL was ATIT DAOSAWANG whose fresh legs helped United see the game to it's end.
Afterwards, Coach Dragan Talajic congratulated his team. Acknowledging that there had been mistakes that cost goals, he urged the fans to, "Don't worry, I will take care of this." He further stated that "The boys showed character," referring to how the team continued to fight after Ratchaburi's second goal and equalized within minutes.
Muangthong have another tough game lined up for this Wednesday when they host third place BECTERO SASANA at the SCG Stadium.
