Muangthong United clinched three points and move top of the table once again, 3 points ahead of rivals Buriram, with whom they are equal on goal difference.
United fought hard for the full 90 minutes plus the 5 minutes of extra time awarded in this rain soaked match, living up to the promise made by Dragan Talajic that his team would always fight until the final whistle. The majority of possession and play was in United's favor, and the ball spent most of the time in Songkhla's half. United came close a few times in the first half with headers or shots just missing the mark. Songhkla had a few runs at goal but were consistently denied by the United back four, or Kawin. A key concern is Kawin had to leave the game at half time. He reported to have serious bruising and pain, but nothing appears broken or torn. It is hoped there will be a speedy recovery. Witsanusak was up to the task of alternate keeper, and made a key diving clearance on the only chance that seemed to present any real threat. At the 80th minute United seemed to find additional power and Songhkla were under siege. Milan Bubalo had been subbed in for Jay Bothroyd, who had come close a couple of times. The first goal came shortly after. Aritz Borda sent a pass in from the halfway line, relayed by Saratch to Wuttichai who found himself ahead of the defender in the box to score. This is the second time for Wuttichai to score late in the game and secure a win, and is becoming known as 'THE CLOSER' for this role. A few moments later, in injury time, Milan Bubalo scored to seal the game for Muangthong United.
Coach Dragan congratulated his team following the game, but said they can play better and expects more, as "We are playing for the championship, every point counts."
