#mtutd vs Police United, Thammasat Stadium, Rangsit.
Match Facts and Information:
Muangthong United visited Thammasat's stadium in Rangsit to face Police United. United previously drew 1-1 with Police, whom before the match were 14th position in the table. Muangthong were second, but with this game had the chance to slide back into first place, ahead of BECTERO who drew yesterday with Buriram.
Police United have two players on loan from Muangthong, Chainaron and Pathompong. However the other story fans have in their minds is Dagno Siaka, who was recently sold to Police United, though he was not listed on the game sheet for this match. Police have also signed former Anton Ferdinand, brother to former England national and Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand. Before the match started Dagno was presented to the Police United fans, however it was the Muangthong United supporters who made the most noise, and to whom Dagno turned and waved his acknowledgement.
This match also is Dragan Talajic's first as head coach for Muangthong United.
It was a game of two halves! Muangthong started strong and had the majority of possession for the first fifteen minuites. Cleiton Silva was eager for the ball and closely guarded by Police's defenders, drawing many fouls. As a result, the first goal came at the 14th minute with a free kick sent in by Datsakorn, then headed into the net by Jay Bothroyd.
Muangthong continued to control the remainder of the first half. Police United were not to get their first corner until the 25th minute, which was headed clear of the box. Muangthong often worked the ball up through the centre of the pitch, with quick one touch passes between Bothroyd, Silva, and Mario. At the same time Piyaphon was pushing up from the back line.
The pressure resulted in Muangthong's second goal at the 33rd minute when Silva was sent a ball through the middle and found himself ahead of the defender. He was able to steer the ball to the left of the keeper, resulting in his first goal for Muangthong United. Police United were not able to put much pressure on goal, and after 2 minutes of extra time the first half ended Muangthong 2, Police United 0.
Police United started the second half with power and a free kick early on gave them their first goal. Then a few minutes later they almost tied it up but the ball was steered wide of the net. Kim Dong Jin had been fouled moments before, and then needed support on the touch line. Muangthong were down to 10 players at this point and pressing, but a key save by Kawin on a hard short kept the ball out of the net. A few moments later Jin had to be stretchered off. Muangthong subbed in Artit to the right back position.
The two teams shared the play from that point onwards. At the 65th minute Sarawut went up for a header and came down hard, requiring support on the sidelines for a few moments. Dragan Talajic took advantage of the pause in play to call Bothroyd over to the side line for some tactical advice.
Sarawut came close, set up from Bothroyd and Silva following a nice ball forward from Artit, but Police cleared the ball off the line. Milan Bubalo was subbed in for Cleiton Silva at about the 75th minute, while Police United continued to press. By the 90th minute Wutticha was subbed in for Sarawut. There were 4 minutes of extra time, but Muangthong held on for the win, and returning to the top of the premier league table.
