July 7, 2019

SCG Muangthong United beat second place Bangkok United 3-2 in front of a packed SCG Stadium, staging a last minute come back with a tremendous strike from Heberty Fernandes.

Coach Alexandra Gama made some significant changes to the line up, with four players across the back, including Daisuke Sato in his first appearance for the Kirin.  As well Bruno Gallo started in midfield, and Derley in a forward role along with Teerasil Dangda.

Within the first few minutes it was clear this was gong to be a firecracker of a match. Teerasil had an early chance at goal  getting his foot on a cross from but easily into the Keeper.  At the other end, a free kick o#8 8 minutes curled towards the far post, but Adison was there to head the ball out for Bangkok United.

The coordination between Teerasil, Derley and Heberty was on display, with a good chance  and only a defender's foot getting in the way preventing an early strike for a  Kirin corner.  The quick back and forth with the ball was repeated a moment later, and the Kirin had their second corner kick of the match.

Bangkok United were able to score first at 20' when Pokklaw was on to a rebound to hit the low shot along the turf off the left post, just out of reach of the diving Dang Van Lam.

Moments later Daisuko Sato went down and needed the medial team. Ernesto had his Kirin debut at left back coming on as his replacement.

The intensity of the tackles saw Kirin players often upended. Fans became irate as Heberty was brought down repeatedly, with the referee hesitant to reach for his pocket. However as the half drew to a close the yellow cards started to appear, with Bangkok United booked a couple of times.

Bruno Gallo had his first goal as a Kirin just before the half, grabbing a he rebound off a cross and slting the ball in at the near post.

The second half saw Muangthong United continue to have the better chances, but as football often goes forward Nelson Bonilla put on a one man show, scoring at 51' and the Kirin were once again a goal down.

Alexandra Gama, looking to add to the attack, subbed off Bruno Gallo and brought in Thailand international Adisak Kraison.

Shortly after, the Kirin equalized at 67 minutes. An initial shot from Sarach Yooyen was off a defender, rebounding out to Teerasil at the edge of the box, who placed the shot low and off the right post to even up the score at 2-2.

Moments later Heberty was once again brought down as he rushed for goal, another yellow card to Bangkok United.  Heberty stepped up to take the free kick from 30 yards,  The kick curled over the wall and off the post, with Oh Ban Suk one-timing the rebound, but over the bar.

The Kirin attack picked up intensity, and Adisak was on to a header ball bound for the net, but a super save from Falkesgaard kept the score even. Coach Gama continued to press for the go ahead goal, bringing in the speedy Thailand striker Sanukran for Derley with about 10 minutes to play,

The change almost paid off a few moments later when Teerasil laid back a pass for the shot, but

Sanukran's effort was blocked for a Kirin corner kick.

With just a minute remaining of extra time, it was Heberty who was the hero for SCG Muangthong United. His goal from midfield was an incredible shot that brought the 12,400+ plus fans to their feet in pure joy!

But to lose a game like this is okay, because we are still in the run for the championship, it's not over yet. The league this season is much closer than before, and not team is going to be able to win 3 points every game."

Said SCG Muangthong United coach Alexandra Gama, "Very good game, we're back!  We created many chances, and will work to keep this form.  Our new players are still not 100% and need better conditioning"
