MATCH REPORT: WINNING WITH CREATIVITY AND CONFIDENCE

June 22, 2019

SCG Muangthong United close out the first leg of the 2019 season with a creative and confident 3-0 victory over Trat FC. The victory in front of their fans at the SCG Stadium was a thrilling display of football talent, creativity, and effort, made no less astounding as it was against a team that leads the league with 29 goals this season.

With Thai international players Teerasil Dangda and Sarach Yooyen both unavailable due to injury, Coach Alexandra Gama looked to young and upcoming players to fill the void and step up.  Said Coach Gama, "I have confidence in the players, and they enjoyed the opportunity and the chance to fight for a position..."

The first 20 minutes of the match saw SCG Muangthong United dominate, penning Trat FC inside their own 18 yard box and creating several good chances.  It looked as if Adisak was going to open the scoring early on with a chance at the near post from Heberty's cross, but the shot was kicked back out by the Trat keeper.

The Kirin moved the ball well, with deft passes and creative ideas as the ball moved between Heberty, Mario Gjurovski, Suphanan, with support from Adison Pomrak pushing forward from the back line.

As the half progressed, Trat FC forward Lonsana Doumbouya was able to penetrate inside the six yard box and Kirin keeper Dang Van Lam needed to be sharp to punch away the cross to deny an attempt at goal.

SCG Muangthong United opened the scoring at 38', moving the ball swiftly into the opponents half. It began with Adisak Kraison taking the ball in his own end and charging forward. At centre field he slid a pass out to Suphanan who then lifted a long ball over the defenders for Mario to run on to.  Gjurovsky then chipped over the ball for Heberty to head into the net.

Just before halftime Trat FC were down to 10 men as midfielder Kriangkrai Pimrat collided dangerously with Mario Gjurovsky.

The second half started with Trat FC not looking at all like a team playing a man down, pressuring into the Kirin half. Yet SCG Muangthong United were solid in defending the goal with tremendous effort and grit.  Youngster Patcharapol Intanee hussled hard to block an attempt, while Charyl Chappuis tracked back to disposes an attacker. Adison Pomrak was dynamic, pushing forward but also recovering quickly to deny the counter attack.

By the 70th minute Coach Gama brought in Sanukran Songkram to replace Mario. The change was prophetic as a few minutes later Sanukran made it 2-0, taking the clever little pass from Adisak Kraison and finding the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

The Kirin's third goal was also the product of a substitution, this time from Myanmar forward Aung Thu, who entered the match at the 81st minute in place of Adisak. It began with Heberty crossing the ball towards Sanukran, who dummied the ball through to Aung Thu who took his time to line up the shot past the keeper to make it 3-0.

Said Coach Gama after the match, "I am very happy with this win, as the players, in a very short time, have started to adapt to what I am explaining to them.  These are smart players,  and also many of them know me from my work with the national team."

SCG Muangthong United will look to continue and build up as they open the second leg of the season next Sunday June 29th, an away match in Prachuap.  The next home match is set for Sunday July 7th against Bangkok United.  In the meantime it is expected the club will announce some new signings, looking to strengthen and recapture the dominant role in the league.
