SEASON FINALE - Kirin play well to finish off the 2018 season

October 7, 2018

SCG Muangthong United finished off the 2018 season of challenge with a strong performance against True Bangkok United, playing out a stubborn battle and goalless draw at the SCG Stadium in front of nearly 9,000 fans.

With the sudden change to the coaching regime just a day before kickoff, Kirin fans were greeted to a revised starting XI, with youngsters Porament and Saringkram getting the  nod, while regulars Charyl, and Sanukran found themselves on the substitute's bench.  The stalwart Japanese defender Naoaki Aoyama was able to return to the centre back along with South Korean international Lee Ho. Kampon ws once again the keeper of choice, and Sarach Yooyen and Heberty were the key midfielders, while Weerawut and Adison played outer-backs. Jaja Ceolho was in the striker role.

For much of the first half Bangkok United showed why they finsished second in the league. The Angles had the Kirin hemmed into their own half.  Several attempts at goal played out, but most were wide of target or easily handled by Kampon.

Despite the dominance, it was SCG Muangthong United who had the better chances at goal in the half, finding ways through the central defenders to strike at net.

Adisak Kraison had the first opportunity at '35, powering his was towards the goal from centre, and as he wound up for the shot from the edge of the box, a Bangkok United defender was able to regain the space and get a foot to the ball.

A few minutes later Heberty took the ball, in similar style,  through the defense. Closing in on net, a tackle from behind interfered with his shot. An appeal to VAR said there was no foul on the play.

The second half began with the same eleven taking to the pitch. It looked as if SCG Muangthong United had the opening goal just a few minutes into the half when Poramet charged at the net. His pass was bound for Jaja Coelho who misjudged the ball and his shot rolled wide of the open target.

Bangkok United were on their heels for much of the half, however the Kirin were unable to generate any further goal opportunities, and the match ended in a stalemate.

The club will now take a well deserved rest after one of their most challenging seasons in recent history. Today's draw means the Kirin end up fourth in the league, a disappointment to many, but a good result given the difficulties of the year.  The 2019 season is expected to launch in early February, and the club will likely play several pre-season friendlies as warmups.
