SCG Muangthong United survived a muddy battle at the PAT Stadium vs. Port FC with a 2-1 win and claim sole possession of first place in the Thai Premier League.
Muangthong opened the scoring in the first half when Teerasil hammered the ball just under the bar from close in at the 42nd minute. The second goal came at the 74th minute when Teerasil fed a pass across the goal mouth to Tahitian who was able to nudge it past the Port FC keeper.
The rain created a challenge for both teams and the MTUTD white away jerseys were brown but the end of the match as the soft pitch led to lots of slides and mid steps. At the 82nd minute a foul in the box led to the Port FC goal on a penalty shot.
SCG Muangthong are now even with Buriram at 50 points, but are one better on goals thus putting MTUTD at the top of the TPL. Muangthong’s next match is this Saturday, Sept. 19th, at the SCG Stadium when the Kirin will host RAJ NAVY F.C., at team currently in 16th spot in the table and facing relegation.
