SILVA THE SAVIOR - MTUTD EARN 3 MORE POINTS WITH LAST MINUTE GOAL

March 11, 2015

SCG Muangthong United 1, Sisaket F.C. - 0

SCG Stadium

Attendance: 8,795

SCG Maungthong United were on the verge of a 0-0 draw with Sisaket FC when Cleiton Silva hammered in a deflection from Wuttichai's shot at the 88th minute.

It was a goal long waited for as Muangthong dominated the match and had missed on dozens of scoring opportunities. Within the first 5 minutes of the match Muangthong applied the pressure and a pass into the box just missed connecting with the foot of Teerasil. In one 10 minutes time span Muangthong had 3 shots and two headers. Sisaket's defense was resolute, getting in front on the Muangthong attackers and spoiling opportunities to score. When a Muangthong attacker was able to get a shot off it often was just wide, or over the bar. The finishing touch was clearly missing. When the shots were on target they would not bounce a favourable way,  as happened in the dying minutes of the first half, when a shot rebound off a defender and into the keeper's hands.

The second half was similar, though Sisaket were able to pressure the Muangthong goal, and Kawin was forced into a couple of saves. The balance of play, however, was clearly in Muangthong's favour. Mario Gjurovski had a golden opportunity early in the half, however his left footed strike was miles high over the bar. He was subbed off at the 62nd minute and is still not ready for a full match, still overcoming the injury that kept him out of the last few games of the 2024 season.

At about the 80th minute right back Piyaphon when down after a clumsy foul and did not get up. The medics took to the pitch, and he was stretchered off. Coach Dragan Talajuc elected to sub in an attacker, Wuttichai. As Talajic said after the match, "The gamble paid off," as it was Wuttichai's deflection  at the 88th minute that came to Cleiton Silva, who made no mistake from close in.

"Tonight we played well, and if you want to be champions you have to win games like this," was Talajic's post match assessment. When pressed about Thai superstar Teerasil, who has yet to score and has not looked to be in the form he's known for, Talajic said, "I am not worried about Mui (Teerasil), we can score now without him, and when he does start scoring, that's extra power for us."

SCG Muangthong United now have a rest after the whirlwind schedule of these first 5 matches, from which they have 3 wins and 2 draws, both from the top teams from last season, Buriram and Chonburi FC. Maungthong will  play friendlies later this month, and then on April 4th face Suphanburi in the next Thai Premier League fixture.
