MATCH REPORT - MUANGTHONG UNITED  1, BANGKOK GLASS, 2

Leo Stadium, 19:00. July 27, 2014

Attendance: 11,009

United began the game with essentially the same line-up as fielded at home vs. BECTERO last week. The major change is Jay Bothroyd is resting due to an injury. Likewise Muangthong are still without Cleiton Silva, Kim Dong Jin, Siwakorn, central defender Erik Paartalu, and others.

From the kick-off Muangthong looked hungry for a goal, and within 5 minutes Milan had a solid shot at net, but it was just wide of the target. Then, Glass counter-attacked, and an open player on the left side picked up the keeper's first save to score.

Despite the quick goal from Glass, United controlled most of the play during the first half. Mario had another chance at goal at the 13 minute, and his scissor-kick shot struck the cross-bar and was then cleared. United had free kicks, and crosses, but several times the finishing touch was missing and the ball was cleared or hit wide of target. Kasidesh, for instance, had the keeper beat with a shot, but it sailed just over the top-right corner. Another chance saw United put the ball into the back of the net only to have the goal disallowed due to an offside call.

Bangkok Glass were dangerous on the counter attack, and at the 29th minute found themselves with a 2-on-1 attack. Tossapol managed to block an attacker, who went down in the box, and the penalty appeals were awarded as United cleared the ball.

Bangkok Glass picked up two yellows when a foul on Mario Gjurovski brought out the first, and the Glass keeper, Narit, was given the second due to his execssive protestations with the referee.  United's defender Suriya was the only other yellow card in the first half as he interfered with an attacker, preventing a break away by pulling him down.

The second half Glass  come out strong, and a chance at 46 minutes from close in is saved by Witsanusak. A few minutes later Spanish defender Borda saved a goal by clearing the ball out seconds before it crossed the line for Glass' second goal. A few moments later Witsanusk is injured and United regular keeper, Kawin is subbed in.

Despite the early pressure, United gain control of the second half, and at the 53rd minute Datsakon hits into the net off a corner kick. The game then became quite chippy, and the fouls and yellow cards started to appear. At the 60 minute a late tackle by Milan caused Glass player Suppaskek to retaliate, and this was the first yellow. Then a few minutes later Piyaphon is kicked in the shin by Bordin, and the two teams were in a fracas as the side line.

United applied plenty of pressure in the second half and clearly controlled the game, however the finishing touch was missing and the go-ahead goal could not be found. A surprise sub for United was Cleiton Silva, who came on at the 63rd minute to help try and find the winner.

Glass were again dangerous on the counter attack, and this led to their second goal at the 81st minute. Once again, the initial shot is stopped by Kawin, but the follow-on was an easy shot. United continued to press into the extra time, but the game ended with United's second loss in a row.

Dragan Talajic commented on the missed opportunites to score by saying, "This wasn't our night." United are in the midst of a heavy game schedule and a string of injuries to several key players. Talajic said, however, that "this was no excuse, we have t play better, and we will work hard to improve."
